3. Breathtaking Landscapes
The northern and western Islands are much “younger” than the eastern and southern Islands. Colorful rocks, jungle like volcanic craters and strange stone formations characterize the Galapagos Landscape. Hike up Sierra Madre Volcano or to the highest point of Bartolome Island from where you have breathtaking views over the archipelago.

The Galapagos Islands have spectacular tropical beaches. The color of the beaches changes from island to island. Some islands have white Caribbean style beaches, some islands have black and others red sand on the beach. You will be impressed seeing that islands in sight of each other can have such an different appearance.
5. Mystical sites.
The Post Office bay is on Floreana Island. Whalers installed a wooden barrel to leave mail to be picked up by crews of other ships and brought to the mainland for expedition. Check out if the system still works, take a letter or postcard from the barrel and send it to the indicated addressee and leave your own postcard or letter in the barrel and see when you receive it at home. Another interesting site the Balta Islands where the main airport for the Galapagos is located. This was a US-Military base from where they observed the Panama Chanel during the second World war. In 1942 the island was inhabited by over 1000 US-Soldiers. Wildlife has gone from the island but still some foundations of the 200 military buildings can be seen from the bus that brings you to your yacht or the itabaca Channel.
